Have you ever noticed the person or people at the gym that get on the eliptical every single day and do the same boring hour long session?   I have, and I always think to myself, "Hmmmm, I've been watching her come in here diligiently for a year and she still is 15 pounds overweight!"  Really, it's a wonder why they keep coming back when they see absolutely no changes in their physique.  Sure we all have reasons for taking the time to exercise, maybe it's that you think you can eat chocolate cake more often, or drink every night (ahem), or maybe it clears your head, gives you more energy, gives you a reason to get out of the house...

 

For goodness sakes, if your going to drag yourself to the gym make it worth your while! Honestly if your jogging on the treadmill for an hour or rocking the eliptical at a steady pace, you're not doing much more for yourself than if you stayed home and vacuumed the house!  Interval training makes all the difference in the world when it comes to effiecient, effective exercise.  If you've been living under a rock :) and don't know what interval training is I'll fill you in.  Interval training is bursts of intense exercise for a short amount of time (20 seconds - 3 minutes) followed by a period of rest (10 seconds- 1 minute or so).

Research shows interval training:

  • burns calories and increases strenght at the same time!  
  • can result in up to 9x greater fat reduction than regular workouts
  • can increase your metabolism for up to 36 hours AFTER you workout!!!

If that's not enough reason to change up your routine, I don't know what is!

 

There are lots of different, fun ways to interval training, but I think I'll save that for another time.  Of course if you want to try it out, sign up for Camp Booty or schedule a one-on one workout session with me. I've been training this way for several years now and I love to show others how!
